MTA issued draft planning permission for a flatted development in a challenging site

MTA have been issued draft planning permission for the construction of a five-storey housing scheme comprived of nine self-contained flats in Nunhead. The acutely triangular site proved challenging when designing the proposed accommodation while providing pleasant external views and adequate private amenity space in parallel. The dynamism of the passing trains behind served as a major source of inspiration for the building’s peculiar shape while the wider context influenced the material palette for the scheme’s design vernacular.

The underused site had been in disrepair for some time prior to the developer obtaining it and reaching out to MTA in 2024 wishing to maximise the potential of the prominent site and provide a distinct piece of contemporary architecture.

MTA transform ground floor of 80’s mid-terrace Bermondsey house via a glazed side infill extension

MTA have finished a side infill extension to a house in Bermondsey that belongs to a mid 80’s tiverside development. The rear ground floor area has completely transformed from a narrow and dimly-lit guest room to an open and flexible space with excellent garden access, flooded with natural light from the large glazed door-set and glazed roof.

MTA complete bespoke loft extension in a Hampstead conservation area

MTA have completed a uniquely formed loft extension in Hampstead for a local artist. The remodelled space will house a new art studio and gym and retain a small terrace to the front of the property.

Draft planning permission issued to MTA for contemporary housing scheme in Nunhead

MTA have been issued draft planning permission for the construction of a three-storey flatted development in Nunhead. The uniquely-shaped plot of land is prominnently located in the junction of two residential roads with varying architectural languages, presenting a unique challenge in balancing the built vernacular to the existing context.

The, presently vacant, site has been empty and disused for years, plagued by fly-tipping and illegal dumping and had been an eyesore and security concern for the local community prior to the developer reaching out to MTA in 2022 with a brief to maximise the site and provide a distinct piece of contemporary architecture.

MTA complete fully glazed roof extension across Imperial War Museum

With the completion of a new glazed roof extension to Barkham Terrace, MTA have seen the close-out to another project and an impressive piece of contemporary architecture in Southwark. The new loft fully glazed loft is of a unique form that provides stunning views of the surrounding area, from the Imperial War Museum across to the London Eye and the South Bank. MTA to win planning for new mixed use scheme in London

Draft planning permission has been won by MTA for the creation of a local landmark in southwark in the form of a mission hall and nursery with contemporary flatted accommodation above. The new build will replace the existing dilapidated buildings on the site and will serve as a community asset and local anchor.

The planning process was challenging and arduous, spanning almost two years and requiring a lot of tight correspondence with the local authority as well as measured amendments to the design to address local concerns. The draft permission was issued in June 2023, to the clients’ satisfaction and relief.

MTA to complete stunning glazed roof extension opposite Imperial War Museum

Our glazed roof extension at Barkham Terrace is nearing completion. As part of a wholistic refurbishment to the property, the extension is of the highest detailed standard, providing the occupants with gorgeous 360 degree views of Elephant & Castle and the Imperial War Museum opposite.

The bespoke form of the extension and its installation to the host building were coordinated with the contractor and the glazing manufacturer to achieve an elegant finish and lightweight feel.

Construction site in Notting Hill

MTA has carefully managed a number of construction sites since the start of the pandemic.

One of our current projects under construction in Notting Hill is developing smoothly, despite the difficult times. The builders have been following all the government guidelines and Public England guidance on social distancing, not working in close groups and wearing full protection at all times.

The project includes a roof extension, basement waterproofing, full refurbishment and a three storey rear extension to a non listed property located in the Westbourne Conservation Area in Westminster.

The works will create a beautiful new home of a young growing family and are currently on target for completion before summer 2021.
